Therapy on (Thin) Ice

My office manager (with approval from my employer) provided me with this book review of If Disney Ran Your Hospital.  Her intentions were for me to read over and “internalize” the concepts supported by the review.

In the review of the book, Iris Kimberg states:

Mr. Lee links imagination with compassion: if you can imagine what your patient and their family is going through, what they must be thinking and feeling, through that imagination process, you are growing your capacity for compassion…By the end of the book, you will be imagining a patient room as a stage, and health professional as having roles, not jobs.

I have read this review thoroughly 4 times and I have arrived at one, single (unintended) conclusion:

It is shameful when performance is mistaken for care, and imagination for empathy.
