Taking Her Time

As I walked out of yet another senior living facility this week, she was playing the piano, hunched forward and leaning to the left with severe scoliosis while seated on her rollator with her portable oxygen tank at her side, her swollen fingers slowly and carefully finding their place delicately on the “ivory” keys.

The melody was slow, at first indistinguishable, but I continued to hum the melody in my car while driving in purposeful silence to my next visit. After a few minutes, a smile came upon me as I successfully recognized the song and it faded just as quickly when I realized that it wasn’t the melody that I had failed to recognize.

The playfulness was gone…

Can you recognize the tune*?

* only an approximation to what I heard that day
